I would like to share my experiences about working with autist and SEN students. I do not have any knowledge or previous experience working with autist or SEN students so therefore this role was very new, challenging and exciting.
The SEN students i worked with seem very normal like as people. Analysising some of thier i was able to understand that thier were SEN students because thier handwriting was unclear and unneat, they find it difficult to spell words, thier speech isn't clear, they need assistance in producing ideas for thier work.
A group of SEN students i worked with in reception class, For Rml i did an active there the student had to use Fred talk(sound words out)to spell words. I was two letter and three letter words with single graphemes. For example to spell DOG, TOP, PIN, GAP,BE, IT, IN AN, AND, DIG.
They found all the words with 'N' sound difficult to write.
But always remeber some children have learning disability so assist them, try not to control them or underestimate them...ALWAYS ENSURE YOU GIVE THEM POSITION FEEDBACK AND YOU ARE ALWAYS POSITIVE TOWARDS THE STUDENTS AS THIS BUILDS THERE CONFIDENCE....Keep being happy and spread the happiness as that creates a fun interactive learning environment for students.
